What to expect at Fujairah Fort
The museum is the oldest fort in the UAE, dating from about 1670, a robust defensive structure of whitewashed stone set against the dramatic backdrop of the Hajar Mountains, standing as the most visible symbol of Fujairah's long history as the only emirate on the Gulf of Oman coast. Entry is completely free. The adjacent Fujairah Museum (AED 3) houses an excellent archaeological collection spanning the Bronze Age to the Islamic period.

The Fort
In addition, the fort's position on a low rocky outcrop above Fujairah city, with the Hajar Mountains rising dramatically behind it, creates one of the most photogenic heritage settings in the UAE. Besides, the thick whitewashed walls, the round defensive towers and the commanding views over the coastal plain and the Gulf of Oman all reflect the serious military purpose of this 350-year-old structure. Moreover, the fort's interior is accessible and the views from the battlements are excellent.
Fujairah Museum
Besides, the adjacent Fujairah Museum houses archaeological finds from across the emirate, Bronze Age pottery and tools, Iron Age copper artefacts, pre-Islamic Arabian jewellery and weapons, and Islamic-period domestic objects. The collection is modestly scaled but well-curated and provides essential context for understanding Fujairah's deep history. In fact, the AED 3 admission is one of the UAE's most remarkable museum value propositions.
The Setting
Also, the fort's location within the old town area of Fujairah, with traditional architecture visible in the surrounding streets and the mountains providing a dramatic natural backdrop, creates the most authentic heritage environment in the emirate. In addition, the golden hour light on the fort walls, the whitewashed stone turning amber against the blue-purple mountain backdrop, is one of the UAE East Coast's most beautiful heritage spectacles.
